The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD) held its 6th Regional Health Research Conference at Bukidnon State University (BukSU) in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, on October 10–12, 2023.

The three-day event will showcase different health-related research projects conducted by both students and professionals from different parts of the region.

Activities during the conference include oral research paper presentations, a research poster contest, plenary sessions, and a 3-minute pitch to policymakers competition.

β€œThis conference aims to bring together researchers, health care professionals, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and insights in the field of health research,” said NorMinCoHRD Chairperson and Department of Science and Technology-10 Regional Director, Dr. Romela N. Ratilla.

With the theme, β€œOne with People and Nature: Sustainable Development Through Health Research,” the conference’s objectives are to: 1) provide a platform for sharing innovative research findings and best practices in health care; 2) foster collaboration and networking among researchers and healthcare professionals; 3) promote evidence-based decision-making in healthcare policy and practice; 4) enhance research capacity and skills among participants.

BukSU President, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, underscored the significance of sustainable development through health research.

β€œSustainable development, particularly in health research, is pivotal for creating a healthier and more equitable world. Through innovative and thoughtful research initiatives like yours, we can pave the way for a future where communities thrive, healthcare is accessible to all, and our environment is preserved for generations to come,” said Mirasol in a message read on her behalf by Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, BukSU’s Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations.

NorMinCoHRD is one of the regional health research consortia of the country under the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS), which provides capacity-building activities to its member institutions and funding for approved health research proposals.

The NorMinCoHRD consortium includes esteemed member institutions such as the regional offices of the Department of Health, the Department of Science and Technology, the Commission on Higher Education, and the National Economic and Development Authority. Additionally, it comprises essential healthcare institutions like the Northern Mindanao Medical Center, Iligan Medical Center, and the JR Borja General Hospital. Academic institutions also hold a substantial presence in the consortium, with members including Bukidnon State University, Liceo de Cagayan University, Mindanao State University-IIT, Central Mindanao University, Cagayan de Oro College, Mountain View College, Xavier University, Capitol University, Misamis University, and Lourdes College.
