The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD) held a Research Proposal Development Mentoring Workshop to twenty-one (21) junior researchers from its member-institutions at Dynasty Court Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City on September 18-20, 2018. Dr. Ofelia P. Saniel and Dr. Ma. Carmen C. Tolabing, professors from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila and consultants of Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), shared their knowledge and expertise in developing health research proposals. They guided the young researchers on how to come up with fundable researches that can be funded by PCHRD or other funding institutions.

Also, they provided advice and critiqued the research proposals that were presented in the plenary. A total of nine (9) research problems identified from the previous training were developed into full-blown research proposals. The consortium’s Research Management Committee (RMC) will evaluate the proposals and those that will pass the evaluation will be endorsed to PCHRD for Regional Research Funding (RRF).

Researches generated from the training and mentorship are expected to benefit and elevate the health status of the communities in Region X. (Hadassah Lois Matito, DOST-X)
